From 3 November 2025, eligible tertiary and secondary (Years 12 and 13) international students in New Zealand will be allowed to work up to 25 hours per week during term time, an increase from the current 20-hour limit (Immigration New Zealand). This change will automatically apply to new student visas granted on or after that date, even if the visa application was submitted earlier (Immigration New Zealand).
Students who already hold visas restricted to 20 hours per week and wish to benefit from the new 25-hour allowance will need to apply for a Variation of Conditions (VOC) —or in some cases a new visa — to amend their work rights; standard immigration fees will apply (Immigration New Zealand). Secondary students (Years 12 and 13) will still need written permission from both their school and a parent or guardian to work during term time (Immigration New Zealand).
For your VOC, please contact us at 📧 contact@nz-scan.digitalpiloto.co.in and our Licensed Immigration Advisers will ensure your application is submitted to INZ promptly and accurately — at minimum cost to you.
